Will Borussia Dortmund sign Jadon Sancho on a long-term basis? Sebastian Kehl provides a transfer report on the Man Utd loanee following a memorable homecoming performance in Darmstadt.

After joining Borussia Dortmund, Jadon Sancho has already contributed an assist, but a permanent move from Manchester United is still doubtful.
The England international has returned to Signal Iduna Park after being frozen out at Old Trafford by Erik ten Hag. After returning to Dortmund, he made his debut right away, coming off the bench in a 3-0 victory over Darmstadt.
Sancho, who set up a goal for Marco Reus in that match, is grinning again, but BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl told Sky90 that there’s little chance another transaction would be completed in the summer: In all honesty, not all that much. Two and a half years ago, Manchester United spent over 85 million euros for him, and there was no way for us to get an economically feasible purchase option. Salary is one thing; the benefits of the transfer are quite another. If he grows as we anticipate, other teams will likely be interested in signing him in the summer, making him a player that Borussia Dortmund will likely find expensive. But in the summer, we’ll have to wait and see.

Given that Ten Hag has said that Sancho, a 23-year-old winger, has had “issues” during his time in Manchester, United will be hoping that suitors will show interest in the player. “He’s now at Dortmund,” he said to Sky Sports. There were problems after he signed, which was a year before [I was here]. You can see that his time at Manchester United has not been successful thus far because we have had problems the entire time. I hope he has the greatest of luck when he returns to Borussia Dortmund. We all hope that he is succeeding there and that he is doing well. Once more, we shall see what transpires.

Sancho has a deal with Old Trafford that runs through 2026, but it doesn’t seem like he will stick with it. If Ten Hag were to go on, his parent club might provide him a fresh start, as the Dutch coach faced inquiries about his future following a patchy 2023–24 season.
