The Roland Garros crowd erupted in applause when the Spanish dream team defeated Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in straight sets on Saturday to begin their Olympic Games doubles campaign. Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz led the charge. Both players won 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 in front of an enthusiastic and jam-packed audience on Court Philippe Chatrier. The 21-year-old Alcaraz said it was a “dream” to play with his compatriot just hours before, after beginning his singles career with a straight-sets victory over Hady Habib. Both performers received standing ovations when they arrived at the crowded Court Philippe Chatrier.
