The Wimbledon women’s doubles final will feature Siniakova and Townsend against Routliffe and Dabrowski

LONDON (AP) – After breaking Hsieh Su-Wei’s winning run at Wimbledon, Katerina Siniakova will now compete for a third women’s doubles crown.

On Friday on No. 1 Court, Siniakova and Taylor Townsend defeated Hsieh and Elise Mertens, the top-seeded duo. The score was 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. They will face second-seeded Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski on Saturday in the championship round. The Canadian-New Zealander duo defeated the American team of Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk 6-4, 6-3. Including the last three times the Taiwanese player participated in the competition, Hsieh has won four Wimbledon doubles championships. This encompassed 2021 with Mertens and the previous year, when the Belgian was on the opposing side of the net during the championship match. The pandemic caused the 2020 edition to be canceled, and Hsieh suffered an injury in 2022.

In addition to winning the French Open this year with Coco Gauff for her eighth major doubles victory overall, Siniakova also won the title in 2022 and 2018 alongside fellow Czech Barbora Krejcikova, who made it to this year’s singles final. Townsend, who finished second at both the French Open and the U.S. Open in 2022, is aiming for her first Grand Slam victory.
