Spurs finally win without either Harry Kane or Heung-Min Son in starting XI

It was the first time in almost five years that Tottenham defeated Brentford in the Premier League without Harry Kane or Son Heung-min in the starting lineup.

Son is presently playing for South Korea in the AFC Asian Cup, away from his Tottenham colleagues, while Kane left the team to play for Bayern Munich in the summer. With 435 goals between them for Spurs, the pair has played a significant role in the team’s recent history.

However, Spurs proved their toughness on Wednesday against the Bees, winning 3-2 after trailing by a goal at halftime. Spurs stunned Thomas Frank’s team with three goals in eight minutes as Richarlison, Brennan Johnson, and Destiny Udogie tore apart the opposition and transformed sadness into joy.

Without Kane and Son, it took 1,837 days and five managers for Spurs to win a game. The last time they triumphed without the two was at Craven Cottage on January 20, 2019, when Harry Winks scored a last-minute goal against Fulham.

With their victory over Brentford, Tottenham moved up into the top four. They will now play another league match on Sunday at Goodison Park against Everton.
