Salah is forced off with suspected hamstring injury during AFCON clash against Ghana

Egypt suffers as team captain Mohamed Salah is substituted due to a possible hamstring injury during the AFCON match against Ghana.

Egypt suffered a severe setback on Thursday when their star player, Mohamed Salah, was forced off the field due to injury in the first half of their encounter against Ghana.

Late in the first half of the Africa Cup of Nations match against Ghana, Salah was knocked off the ball. The forward was promptly replaced by Mostafa Fathi and went off the field. Although the nature of Salah’s injury is yet unknown, The Athletic speculates that it may be a hamstring issue.

A minute after Salah was substituted, Mohammed Kudus gave Ghana the lead with a superb strike from the edge of the box, dealing a double blow to Egypt. Egypt’s chances of making it farther in the competition have taken a slight knock as they drew their opening match against Mozambique.

Should his condition worsen, Salah might miss the remainder of the competition and probably return to Liverpool to recuperate. But Egypt will be hoping that he recovers in time for their Group B finale against Cape Verde.

After the 31-year-old’s injury is examined, Egypt will determine whether or not he can play against Cape Verde. Liverpool and the national team will be worried about the prolific forward’s health.
