Against St. John’s on Tuesday night in Newark, N.J., Seton Hall (13-5, 6-1 Big East) easily won its fifth straight and eighth in nine games thanks to an impressive run that spanned 39 minutes of actual time and 8:13 of game time. Al-Amir Dawes scored 21 points as Seton Hall ripped off 28 straight points bridging the first and second halves and pulled away. It resulted in a 52-24 lead from a 24-24 draw.

The Pirates scored the first 14 points of the second half after leading 38-24 after scoring the last 14 points of the first half. Elijah Hutchins-Everett made two free throws to give them a 52–24 advantage.
During the clinching run, Dylan Addae-Wusu scored 11 of his 16 points and pulled down 10 boards against his old team, while Dawes made two 3-pointers. Kadary Richmond did not score any points during the run, which saw Hutchins-Everett score nine of his season-high fourteen points.

For the Pirates, Dre Davis scored ten points, while Richmond added twelve points and nine rebounds. For the first time since coach Shaheen Holloway was a senior guard for the club in 1999–2000, Seton Hall shot 39.7 percent and started 6–1 in Big East play.
Due to COVID-19, both senior guard Jordan Dingle and first-year coach Rick Pitino were unable to play for St. John’s, which suffered its second straight loss.

Zuby Ejiofor scored 13 points and Daniss Jenkins scored 17 for the Red Storm (12-6, 4-3), who shot 41%. Joel Soriano, who finished with six points and was benched for the last 14:49, was a non-factor.
With 13:29 left, Davis’ 3-pointer gave the Pirates a 13-2 lead after St. John’s missed its first ten shots. In the next nine more minutes, the Red Storm rallied, outscoring Seton Hall 22-13 to level the game at 24 with a 3-pointer from Jenkins, but Seton Hall eventually took the lead.
