Mason Greenwood set to return to Manchester United.

Mason Greenwood is expected to return to Manchester United.

After an agreement was reached with La Liga team Getafe in September 2023, the Red Devils permitted the 22-year-old attacker to go on loan from Old Trafford. Due to the England international’s impressive performance in Spain, his contract has been extended through the end of the current campaign, attracting interest from teams like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

When Greenwood said goodbye to United, it was thought that he had no future in Manchester. His final game for the elite team in the Premier League was played just before he was arrested in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control.
Greenwood was able to restart his professional career after the charges were withdrawn in February 2023, but he was unable to return to United. Fabrizo Romano claims that the Red Devils won’t decide on the winger’s long-term future until they have a new sporting director in place.

“At the end of the season, they will have Sancho and Greenwood returning,” Romano told GIVEMESPORT, referring to Jadon Sancho’s impending return to England following a loan at Borussia Dortmund. Man United and INEOS want a new sporting director to be in charge of making decisions regarding these two players and take accountability for their actions. As a result, nothing will likely be determined for Greenwood in February or March, even if it’s early. I believe they will most likely talk about it around May or June.

After purchasing a 25% share in United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has some significant decisions to make behind the scenes at Old Trafford, including some planned personnel changes. Dan Ashworth is reportedly eager to leave Newcastle and join United as their new sporting director, while Omar Berrada, who was lured away from Manchester City, is expected to take over as CEO.
