Lionel Messi has been crowned The Best FIFA Men’s Player for 2023, beating both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to top spot once again.

At the London ceremony on Monday, the attacker was named the world’s best men’s player for the year 2023, defeating two other superstars in the process. As of right now, he has received more awards than any other player, having received recognition in 2019, 2022, and 2023.

After winning his eighth Ballon d’Or in 2023, that followed a 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Argentine has now been crowned the finest player in the world by FIFA, too. The Major League Soccer player has won the accolade three times in his career and is the first player to do it while competing in the league.

Messi did not attend the ceremony, nor did Mbappe or Haaland. The Argentine remained in Miami and trained with the Herons ahead of their 2024 preseason encounter against the national team of El Salvador on Friday.

The Herons will officially return to action on February 21 versus Real Salt Lake to kick off the 2024 MLS season, which is rapidly approaching. There are other friendlies scheduled till then, one of which is a matchup with Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr on February 1.
