Giorgio Chiellini, a former defender for Italy, will remain with LAFC as the team’s Player Development

The Italian star concluded his remarkable career last month, having played for MLS team LAFC for the previous two seasons. He has been named the team’s Player Development Coach, so even after he retires, he will still be connected to The Black and Golds.

Co-president and general manager of LAFC, John Thorrington, stated on the team’s official website that they were “glad to have Giorgio play the final 18 months of his playing career with LAFC” following the announcement of their partnership with the veteran defender. He demonstrated his value to LAFC during that period in a number of ways, and we are thrilled to have him join our staff for the upcoming season as a truly bright football mind, an amazing leader, and an even better person.”

During his two seasons at LAFC, the 39-year-old former Juventus player made 45 appearances in all competitions and managed one goal. Along with winning the 2022 MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield, he also finished second in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League with the team.

The team led by Steve Cherundolo will take on Seattle Sounders on February 24 to kick off their MLS 2024 campaign.
