Javier Hernandez hinted at a sensational Liga MX transfer move as he gears up for a return to the ‘best city in Mexico’ after his stint at LA Galaxy.

The former Manchester United striker, who is presently a free agent, is recovering from an ACL injury that ended his summertime career with La Galaxy. He supposedly received proposals from the Middle East, Europe, and Major League Baseball, but none of them are said to have piqued his interest as much as the one Chivas put forth. Hernandez has recently indicated that, after 13 years, he will go back to Liga MX.

Hernandez indicated he would play “over there (Mexico)” in “the best city in Mexico” when speaking on the sidelines of the Americas Kings League. When pressed to name the location or team, he stayed mute. He did, however, disclose that, in order to finish his transfer, he will be arriving in Mexico in the coming weeks.

The player’s agent, Lorenzo Roman, stated that the agreement would be “very nice for both parties” and acknowledged that he has been trying to get Hernandez back to Mexico. He reportedly spent several weeks communicating with Chivas representatives and even traveled to Guadalajara to finalize the contract’s nuances.

Hernandez won the 2022 MLS All-Star honor in addition to scoring 39 goals in 82 MLS games over the course of four seasons. Unfortunately, he had to say goodbye to LA Galaxy in November due to an ACL injury, and by 2023, he had only scored once in 12 games across all competitions.

Hernandez previously wore the No. 14 shirt, which Chivas have now made available to him. Hernandez previously wore this number for the team. The previous owner of the number, Ricardo Marin, has chosen to take No. 19 prior to Clausura 2024 starting. Hernandez will shortly go back to his birthplace, where he began playing soccer at the age of nine, if all goes according to plan.
