Following a call with Lawrence Stroll, a key Ferrari technical director was persuaded to join Aston Martin

Legendary designer Adrian Newey is rumored to be leaving Ferrari to work for Aston Martin, but Lawrence Stroll’s team is expected to welcome another important member of the Scuderia’s design staff. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have won races for Ferrari as a result of the company’s recovery from its 2023 issues, which saw it develop a car that is more compliant and simpler to drive.

The technical section at Maranello, where designers rebuilt important components like the aerodynamic framework and rear suspension, has been instrumental in that success. Enrico Cardile, technical director of Ferrari, oversaw the work in the aerodynamics and chassis divisions, and a report by Formu1a.Uno claims that rival Aston Martin has taken notice of his achievements.

Lawrence’s strolling gaze Although Fernando Alonso had a great year with Ferrari, finishing with seven podium finishes by the end of the year, the most of any driver outside of Red Bull, Ferrari’s technical leader for Aston Martin is yet to secure a podium spot in 2024.

Team owner Stroll was in communication with senior Ferrari executives regarding a move, as he was perturbed by their lackluster performance and the car upgrades, which technical director Tom McCullough has acknowledged have decreased performance. Cardile reportedly had numerous crucial phone conversations with the Canadian millionaire before accepting a position at Aston Martin. He will add to the team’s expanding pool of backroom personnel, which already includes seasoned F1 technical chief Bob Bell.

The news that the team has managed to sign former Mercedes engineer Loic Serra, who is expected to join the team in October together with former Toto Wolff right-hander Jerome D’Ambrosio, may come as a blow to Ferrari.

Enrico Cardile left Ferrari for what reason? If Hamilton, the seven-time World Champion, is finally coming to Ferrari, why would an engineer abandon the thing that has the best chance of working out on paper? People have always moved around between Formula 1 teams, making up the workforce. The paddock is a close-knit group and competitors and fans will examine your final product almost every two weeks.

Because they fear being stolen by another company, some teams want to keep it a secret as to who came up with what ideas for improving performance. The Formula One budget cap is another factor that influences it. Teams used to be able to overcome obstacles like migration by providing top pay, but that is no longer an option. Number constraints on teams have an impact on pay, thus organizations are now looking to hire the least expensive engineers they can. This explains the increased personnel turnover. Teams will also have a fresh start under the new regulations that take effect in 2026, which will make switching teams in the future quite alluring. Aston Martin wants to contend for championships, and with such a well-known brand and strong support, it’s easy to understand how people could get drawn to Stroll’s endeavor.
