Chelsea may leave Stamford Bridge for six years as they are set to renovate

If Chelsea decides to renovate the stadium, they would apparently have to leave Stamford Bridge for six years.

The Blues could either renovate their current ground or ‘spend over the odds’ to buy land and build somewhere, according to The Sun. If the west London team pursued the Stamford Bridge renovation, they might need to lease a temporary location like Wembley, similar to what Tottenham did.

According to the article, Chelsea would have to rebuild the stadium from the ground up if they were to continue in their current location. On the other hand, the Blues have been linked to constructing a new stadium a mile away at the site of the former Earls Court Exhibition Centre. However, the cost of merely purchasing the land would be £500 million ($636 million) before any work started. Additionally, the cost of a stadium with 60,000 seats could reach £1 billion ($1.27 billion) if owner Todd Boehly proceeds with the plan.

In 2022, Boehly paid £2.5 billion ($3.1 billion) to acquire the club, and he pledged to invest £1.75 billion on players and stadium improvements. Although £1 billion has already been spent on players, the preparations for the stadium have moved far more slowly along.
The Chelsea first team returns to Premier League action on March 11 at home against Newcastle United in a match that will determine who finishes eighth or eleventh, while the board attempts to move forward with potential stadium renovations.
