Chelsea have spent almost £30 million on injured players this season

More than any other Premier League team, Chelsea has spent around £30 million ($38 million) on player salaries while they have been sidelined with injuries.

Throughout the 2023–24 season, the Blues have faced a plethora of injury concerns, with players including Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, and Romeo Lavia among others sidelined for extended periods of time.

Data specialist OLBG reports that the club has paid out exactly £27,690,714.29 in salary to the 16 first-team players who have missed a total of 1,413 days due to injuries. That is more than any other Premier League team has paid injured stars’ salaries to date this season.

Manchester United, who have given over around £20 million ($25 million) to 17 players, is the next team to have made large payments to injured stars. With only nine players out of action for 357 days overall, Manchester City has paid out almost £15 million ($19 million), whereas Tottenham has paid out £11 million ($14 million) to their injured stars with 19 players out of action for 1,060 days.

James, Nkunku, and Lavia are just a few of the players that Mauricio Pochettino hopes to have healthy again soon as his club prepares to compete in Europe the next season. With 12 points separating them from a spot in the top four, the London squad is presently ninth in the Premier League.
