A formal agreement has been reached between Wayne Taylor Racing and Cadillac to compete in the hypercar class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2025. Wayne Taylor Racing has been a member of Andretti Global’s racing operations since 2022.

Prior to the announcement of their separation early in 2024, Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing were partners. The gap will now be filled by Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Global.

Prior to the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti has declared that it will assume the Cadillac IMSA team that Chip Ganassi Racing has left empty.

WTR and General Motors are no strangers to one another; the two companies collaborated from 2011 to 2020, winning three races and one title at the Rolex 24 in Daytona. Going even further back, in 1990 Wayne Taylor began racing Chevrolet GTPs.

WTR moved its sports car racing teams to Acura in 2021, but this year there were definitely going to be adjustments. Wayne Taylor, the team’s principal, stated that a “different direction” must be taken by 2025.

In order to combine Andretti Autosport and Andretti Global to become the team that is presently known as Wayne Taylor Racing, the latter company acquired a portion of WTR in 2022. It is anticipated that the two will share space and resources at Andretti’s ongoing racing shop close to the Indianapolis airport.

But this is one of the earliest instances of Andretti switching from Honda to GM power, and the switch to Cadillac power for WTR signifies a real materialization of the driver’s relationship with the automaker. It is noteworthy, nevertheless, that Andretti Global continues to power IndyCars with Honda engines.

Action Express Racing will continue to race one vehicle under the moniker Cadillac Racing, while Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing will field two Cadillac V-Series.Rs in the 2025 IMSA season.

Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing parted ways, however it doesn’t seem like it was to WTR’s or Andretti’s advantage.
