Andre Onana might lose No. 1 spot at Man Utd

As Manchester United prepares to make a move for Ivan Provedel, Andre Onana may discover upon his return that he is no longer the team’s first choice goalkeeper.

Onana, United’s normal first-choice stopper, is now away representing Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations. Since coming to Old Trafford from Inter, Onana has faced criticism, and it has been stated that Erik ten Hag is already trying to bring in a replacement. Provedel has reportedly surfaced as a contender for the Premier League team, according to Quotidiano Sport.

In order to make sure they have a reliable option, United may put in a bid for the 29-year-old during the January transfer window, according to the source. This season, the Italian has demonstrated his talent at Lazio by scoring a last-minute equalizer in his team’s Champions League encounter against Atletico Madrid, which garnered media attention throughout Europe.

Provedel signed a five-year contract with Lazio after leaving Spezia in 2022. He has made 72 appearances for the Rome team thus far, conceding 70 goals while maintaining 32 clean sheets.

Until Onana returns from his competition in the Ivory Coast with Cameroon, United will have to rely on Tom Heaton to play in goal while 25-year-old Altay Bayindir sits on the bench.
