A “$2 million extortion plot” has Bryson DeChambeau going bonkers (!). It’s untrue

According to a shocking revelation by Golfweek, Bryson DeChambeau and Mike Schy, his former golf coach, are embroiled in a heated quarrel. Following DeChambeau’s triumph at Pinehurst No. 2 in the US Open last month, the newspaper claims that Shy attempted to extort $2 million from him.

Schy reportedly requested the funds because the 30-year-old failed to fulfill his half of an alleged agreement to finance a junior golf circuit bearing his late father Jon’s name. Schy has been called a “disgruntled former employee” by DeChambeau, who disputes this. Schy, for his part, has not denied requesting the payment, telling the newspaper that he thought it was time to “look out for himself.”

How did it happen? Schy allegedly asked DeChambeau in 2023 to start a youth golf competition series at a reasonable price. DeChambeau eagerly agreed, wishing to honor his late father Jon with the tour’s name. The tour is reportedly going to be financed over two years by a “non-recourse loan” that DeChambeau consented to.

Schy is said to have told DeChambeau he needed $125,000 annually for a period of two years. According to the report, Brett Falkoff, DeChambeau’s agent, claimed that Schy had improperly established the 501-C3 organization. Additionally, according to DeChambeau and his group, Schy failed to provide a workable business strategy. This was an indication, according to Schy, that DeChambeau had no intention of supporting the tour.

What they stated… Michael Schy

“I know Bryson and I knew he didn’t really want to give the money, and I certainly knew he didn’t want to give it for a long period of time.” DeChambeau, Bryson

DeChambeau added that money had nothing to do with his choice. “I don’t want to be splitting up money and giving it away ineffectively,” he continued. “I stated I despise the way non-profits are normally run, not that I hate non-profits per se. Actually, that’s what I said. “Everything I said is misconstrued and twisted in a way that is absolutely false.”

Sadly, it’s the dissatisfied former employee, but that’s the way things are. From a business perspective, despite our repeated discussions, it hasn’t worked out. “The way he’s spun and twisted things is quite upsetting. The loan that was being disbursed was non-recourse. I offered him my dad’s name, picture, and likeness without any strings attached, thinking we would have a solid business strategy, but that hasn’t worked out. “I’m going to be doing a lot for my community, just in a different fashion with a proper business plan and done correctly.”
